Awesome How To Stand Out

Awesome How To Stand Out Megan Fitzgerald, career coach for expats, is writing a series on how to stand out titled Expat Careers Businesses: How To Stand Out in the Global Marketplace.  This is a multi-part series in her second series (read the first one here) she talks about me!  How flattering. Im going to share what she says about me and then tell you how this applies to YOU. Megan writes (read her entire post for a context and more depth): BECOME THE MEDIA OR AN INDUSTRY AUTHORITY For example, my colleague  Jason Alba (and former expat) became a thought leader and an online hub in the career space by blogging everyday for a year. He shared about his own challenges as a job seeker and the tools that he developed to try and help him manage that process. The wealth of knowledge he shared, his  authentic and engaging style and his regular engagement with his readers made him a credible, real, and respected voice amongst thousands of blogs in the career space.  He then leveraged his technology experience and his own learning from the job search and blogging to build an incredibly powerful service called  Jibberjobber. To say it  helps jobs seekers manage their career and network effectively would not do it justice.  There is  nothing elsecomparable in the marketplace and I invite every career professional to visitJibberjobber see what it can do for you. Jasons thought leadership in job search and networking naturally led him to becoming an expert on how other online tools can be of help to job seekers namely  Linkedin and  Facebook. He has written two excellent books to help guide job seekers and careerists  Im on Linkedin Now What? and  Im on Facebook Now What? (co-authored with  Facebook expert Jesse Stay). Both of these publications further enhanced his status as an expert. Now he is in high demand as a speaker for events around the world as well as a media source for leveraging Linkedin in the job search. How cool is that? There are a couple of things here that she isnt 100% accurate on, but it doesnt matter.  Its a very positive writeup.  When she thinks of someone who is doing it right, I came to mind as a success, and she is sharing that success, and my products/services, with her clients and blog readers. If she ever gives a presentation on this, she might use my story as an example. MY BRAND IS SOLIDIFIED IN HER MIND. You cant pay for that type of branding. can you?  Perhaps you can, but that strategy is reserved for companies with gobs of marketing dollars. The average person, with no marketing money, CAN get this type of branding. YOU CAN GET THIS TYPE OF BRANDING! You want someone in your profession or industry to write something like that about YOU, right?  Or when their boss comes to them and asks if they know anyone with an expertise in ______, you want them to think of YOU, right? You can make that happen, if you have a strategic approach to your own branding. Heres another snippet from her post: Granted the time and work to become an trusted authority is not for everyone, but it is another option for those keen to stand out and get noticed in the global marketplace. So true. So who are you?  Are you the still kicking against the pricks (biblical term guess what pricks are?) applying to openings on job boards, or are you keen to stand out and get noticed in the (global) marketplace? Work for your career.  No one else is going to do it for you! How Your Bad Habits Affect Your Job Search - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

How Your Bad Habits Affect Your Job Search - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Puff the not-so-magic dragon. Today’s health care costs have employers cracking down on everything from smoking to drinking, weight loss and more. Is it legal for an employer to stick their nose in your off-work play? Can this really affect your job search? 5% of employees represent 50% of health care costs which is why companies including Quaker Oats, Johnson Johnson, IBM and Motorola have all instituted wellness programs. Smoked out of a job “You’ve got 15 months to quit smoking or your job.” That’s the message Weyco gave it’s employees, accompanied by a stop smoking program. 20 employees were affected one way or another, including a 14 year tenured employee that tried the program, gum and patches, to no avail. According to experts featured on 60 Minutes on CNBC, under the law in all but 5 states in America, you can be fired, or not hired, for any reason at will, including smoking. Why would Weyco do this? The increasing cost of   health care on the employer’s bottom-line. The weight of wellness Want to work in the casino industry? Be careful what you wish for; The Borgata Babes, male and female bar attendants, are only allowed to gain 7% of your body weight. Yes, this is legal. If you think it’s an industry issue, think again. The University of Louisville saw such a dramatic increase in health insurance costs they instituted a wellness program to incentivize employees to get healthy and ideally drive down their costs. Employees get a $20 credit on their monthly health insurance premium in exchange for completing a wellness, sexual, and exercise plan and working with an exercise coach. Bottom’s up Now that you’ve quit smoking and are exercising, it might be nice to go out on a date and have a beer. Careful what you order; you might get fired! A guy in Colorado who worked for Anheuser-Busch was on a date when his waitress accidentally delivered a Coors Light beer; he drank it. His boss’ son bumped into him on his date and offered to buy him a Budweiser, he declined and kept the Coors Light. He was fired the next day. You guessed it, legal. He’s not an alcoholic; he just ordered the wrong brand. When it comes to job searching it’s a wise move to clean up your bad habits and give yourself the best possible chance to land a new opportunity. It’s been a stated fact, by employers, and hiring managers alike, that they screen out smokers, overweight, and unhealthy candidates. Do they proclaim that out loud? Sometimes, although not often; but it is happening more often than you might care to admit or see. Who’s really to blame? The employer who implements these policies to keep costs at bay? Insurance companies who increase premiums placed on employers because of rising health care costs? Or the individuals that have medical problems that are a result of these bad habits? The reality is that it’s a circle that continues to go round and the ones punished are those currently in, or attempting to land in, the workplace today. Your best bet is to keep your personal brand, and habits, healthy. Rental Agent Resume Skills

Rental Agent Resume SkillsLet's be honest; everybody wants a well-designed, excellent looking and highly efficient receptionist resume. While one of the primary factors to a good-looking resume is talent, it can be difficult to find your calling in the business world. The truth is that everybody has their strengths and weaknesses. There are people who are great at getting prospects to come into your office while others who are able to focus on the clients themselves. For this reason, you need to learn how to improve your basic skills when it comes to developing and submitting your resumes. This means that you need to become a stronger writer than just being a 'pitchman' for your organization. You also need to be able to present yourself and your skills and abilities in a very professional manner. One of the most important pieces of information that you should be aware of is the fact that you should never take any of the content of your resume for granted. By learning these simple yet h elpful tips, you can ensure that you have all of the information needed to present your resume the way that it should be presented. There are a number of different things that you can do that will help to make your resume stand out above the rest.Remember that professionalism is something that you should always strive for. Never make generalizations about the applicant, for example. You should remember that the resume that you are giving to the employer is not an opportunity for a promotional speech, but it is simply a tool to help them see that you are someone who they can do business with. Keep your writing simple and focus on describing what you bring to the table rather than your weaknesses. When you submit your resume, it is important that you pay attention to certain areas that you can change to improve your skills. For example, if you have trouble in sales, you can include sales information in the section of your resume that focuses on your skills. This information is necessar y in terms of increasing your resume skills as well as showing employers that you have the ability to work with and sell products that you are trying to sell.As mentioned earlier, the abilities to communicate with your prospect, your ability to present yourself and your strong organizational skills are important. You should take the time to develop these three skills by making sure that you focus on these things in your writing. You can develop your skills as a writer through reading the articles and materials that are available on the internet. This will help you learn the skills that you need to know in order to be able to write a professional resume. Also, avoid using technical jargon in your writing. When you use technical terms, it makes it harder for the person who is reviewing your resume to understand the message that you are trying to get across. It is best to simply write about the skills that you have that will benefit your company. However, you should never use technical terms because they are going to seem very strange to a person who has never heard them before. These tips can help you achieve a better understanding of how to present yourself and your skills to a potential employer in the best way possible. These basic skills are something that you must work on in order to find out if you really are able to sell yourself and the services that you are offering. If you want to be the best receptionist that you can be, then you will need to take the time to learn more about this area of the business world.

Why Talent Development is Important for Employers

Why Talent Development is Important for Employers These days, organizations are emphasizing on talent development. Several researches conclude that those organizations that putt efforts on talent development enjoy good returns in longer run.For some folks, talent development is something related to employees training. But it is wrong. Employees’ training is just a set of generic practices adopt by the human resource management to perform the specific tasks and duties.evalDan Pontefract says, talent development is not just the name of employees’ training. It is much broader than training. He further explains that, talent can be developed both from outside and inside of “talent and development” programs. The talent can be developed through mentoring, coaching, job shadowing, blogs, articles, Wiki’s, books, lectures and leadership models. What is actually Talent Development?According to the University of Kansas, Talent development is an organizational commitment and human resource process to attract, hire, retain and develop em ployees’ skills in order to achieve the common organizational goals and objectives.Furthermore, talent development also focuses on how to increase and polish the hidden employees’ skills and competencies so that they can help the organization to achieve its goals and objectives.Good organizations provide excellent learning opportunities and helpful tools to their workforce so that they can advance their careers. If we sum up, talent development is actually a long term business strategy that organizations implement in order to retain top talented employees. If you are running a small scale business or working as a human resource professional in a blue chip Company, you should promote talent development programs in your organization.evalHere are some major reasons why you should focus on developing talent and talent intelligence in your organizations.1. Better Levels of Customer ServiceevalIf you spend some investment on your employees and polish their hidden skills, it will definit ely payoff. Multiple surveys demonstrate that talented staff can provide excellent customer services as compare to inexperienced and non-talented staff.2. An engaged and motivated workforceAccording to Mercers’ Global Talent trends study 2016, more than 90% organizations predicted that competition for acquiring talent will rise this year.Furthermore, this study also found that outdated processes, lack of employees development, and bad behaviors of managers play main role in the dissatisfaction of employees. It leads to unengaged and unmotivated workforce.evalAgain, initiating talent development programs can create a motivated and highly engaged workforce that can increase company’s overall productivity.3. Reduce Absenteeism and Employee turnoverCareer Advancement and skill development is highly important for most individuals. If employees feel that their organization cares about them and provide right path for career development then the employees’ work engagement will increas e.As a result, employees’ turnover and absenteeism will automatically decrease.4. Reduce recruitment costsAs I mentioned above, if Company has a workforce who enjoys good learning opportunities, skill development and career advancement opportunities then they will not leave their jobs. They will stick with the organization for a long time.Low employees’ turnover will definitely help the organization to reduce the recruitment costs.5. Increased productivity and efficiencyevalIt is obvious that if employees have been trained properly and Companies build a culture of talent development, then the employees will become more loyal, more efficient and productive than ever before.Good professionals always try its best to meet employees’ needs and demands and also help the organizations to build a talent pool so that they can get competitive edge in the market.

So Many Recruiters, So Few Jobs - Whos Hiring - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. There are easily hundreds of recruiters out there. Maybe there are fewer today than several months ago due to the huge drop in hiring, but there are an amazing number of firms that specialize in almost every type of career, job function and industry. Todays list includes a few more weve not yet reviewed. RGS Search Partners, LLC This firm specializes in a broad number of functions and industries: Technology, Program / Project Management, Consulting, Finance, HR and more. Imagine its September 2016... - When I Grow Up

Imagine its September 2016... - When I Grow Up Imagine that its September 2016 just 6 months from now. You could be continuing on your normal life, getting the kids ready to go back to school. Its another year, and everything is just the same as its always been. Your dreams are still running in the back of your mind and you think, Oh, one of these days, I might just do something about that. Or Its September 2016 and your brand-new website is about to launch, complete with a custom logo, newsletter sign-up (you have a newsletter!), an offer to make you money, and a contact form for people who want to work with you. You have a business. A legit business of your very own and are sharing your gifts and your creative vision with the world. This isnt a pipe dream. Its completely 100% do-able. But its not going to happen on its own. Heres what we know about the secret to success: You have to go out and make it happen for yourself. Action begets action. Doing the work leads to more work and more inspiration and more everything. But you have to be willing to start. Its not about BEINGBRAVEALLTHETIMEOMG. Its about finding quiet moments of courage, of taking risks in service of your something bigger. You have to be willing to take a deep breath and do the brave thing. And then, after a while, you have to be willing to do it again. And guess where youll be in 6 short months if you start now? Youll be busy and focused. There wont be time to worry about what everyone else is doing and selling and all that stuff because, you will have work to do. Time wont be spent wondering what to start next. It will be spent doing because youll have a plan, a structure to your day, and customers to take care of. Youll have an audience of people who cant wait to hear from you again. Instead of waiting around for people to find you, you will have executed a plan to go out and find the people who will fall head-over-heels in love with you and your work. Youll be doing the work. Its business time. How are you going to feel about your creative work if, one year from now, youre in the exact same place? Conversely, how will you feel about it all if you become one of those success stories you love reading? You can become the success story. If youre willing to say yes. (Its time.) When you stop spinning your wheels and start taking action, you will have a bigger audience, make more money and (finally!) be doing the work youve been dreaming about. And fear? It wont be an issue, because youll know that rejections arent the end. Youll learn to celebrate each no as it moves you closer to your bigger yes. Youll become a pro at putting yourself out there and will stand confident that the ask, and not the outcome, is what matters. It’s Business Time is a 6-month coaching, branding and design program and online community that will help you gain clarity, achieve focus, and take action towards building a business (and life!) you love. With the combination of mentorship, structure, support, and accountability, youll be able to start doing all of the work youve only been thinking about doing up until now. Applications close today. Are you ready to join the 9 highly-creative, multi-passionate women who have said yes? Lets do this. If you apply now, we can chat as early as this afternoon. We wanna answer any lingering questions you have about the program, and make sure its a unanimous Heck Yes! from all 4 of us. Theres nothing to lose.
